Loss, Part 1

The hard truth of pregnancy is that sometimes babies die before they are born. Some women are more affected by miscarriage than others. This article is for those who have struggled to cope– maybe it’s you, or your wife, or your co-worker.  My first miscarriage was a release from an unexpected pregnancy; I didn’t see it as the death of a child. But the second miscarriage, while physically the same process, not only took my child, but nearly took my faith.

Plums and Perseverance

When you are looking at adversity, do you see the obstacle or the opportunity? Typically, we see the obstacle. But whether out of sheer stubbornness, ingrained optimism, or faith, we decide NOT to throw the towel in and walk away. What it really is, if we stick it out, is a chance for God to show what He can do– turn an obstacle into an opportunity

St. Patty’s Mother

This entry is originally from a letter I wrote to our daughter last March.  The idea was generated at the start of a spin class, (as in cycling) when the instructor asked if anyone knew much about St. Patrick.  Ever the homeschool mother, I volunteered what I knew.  What I didn’t say, and what niggled at me the rest of the class was, like me, struggling with a child moving away from  home, St. Patrick had a mother too.
